Imagine: Two thought-provoking videos

"I wish to urge upon the Saints . . . to understand men and women as they are, and not understand them as you are" (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:37, April 6, 1860, emphasis added).

Next in our “Imagine” series! At times it is hard for straight cisgender folks to understand the LGBTQ world, but on this blog we’re lifting up insights that make it easier.

To that end, here are two videos we like:

"My Heroes," by Landwirth Legacy Productions. “This 2-minute digital PSA was written by Alexander Day and Brian Carufe, directed by Almog Avidan Antonir, and produced by the team at Landwirth Legacy Productions, as a means to challenge gender stereotypes when it comes to children's Halloween costumes.”

Love is All You Need?” award-winning film by WingSpan Pictures (19 minutes). Trigger alert: you can stop at 14:20 and miss the (unsuccessful) suicide attempt. “Imagine a world where being 'gay’ is the norm and being ‘straight’ would be the minority. All the events that took place in this film are true stories from victims of bullying. This film is dedicated to any child who has ever felt such darkness due to others’ hatred and misunderstanding. Always know that love is meant to be within and you should never feel wrong or alone by being who you are . . . Unique.”

"There never seems to be a polite way of saying, 'Look, the problem isn't me. It's your inability to greet me as I am instead of how you want me to be” (Blaire Ostler, Listen, Learn and Love, Richard Ostler, 157).
